Bhatkal: Issues related to the sub-standard work of the Under Ground Drainage (UGD) system, damage to hundreds of wells, and the Sarabi River turning into a wastewater drain were heatedly discussed during the annual general body meeting of the century-old social organization Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal. Members raised concerns about the Tanzeem's effectiveness in addressing public issues.

The members also accused the municipal councilors, panchayat members, and the local MLA of not showing interest in the taluk's development as promised. They pointed out that the promises made to the public before the elections, particularly concerning local issues, have not been fulfilled. There is a lack of attention toward resolving the problems that people are struggling with. The members urged the Tanzeem to hold the councilors and panchayat members accountable and to demand work reports from them in the respective areas. Questions were raised regarding the shifting of the fish market. Members asked why the case of the removal of the Urdu board from the new municipal building was not taken to court and why no steps were taken by the councilors and the Tanzeem regarding the removal of illegal stalls around Shamsuddin Circle and other places. The members expressed their displeasure over why issues concerning the MLA, who won with Muslim votes and is now also the district in-charge minister, are not being addressed. The members asked several other questions and also provided useful suggestions for solving the problems.

Tanzeem President Inayatullah Shabandri, General Secretary Abdul Raqib MJ Nadvi, and Advocate Imran Lanka, among other office bearers, faced the members' questions and provided satisfactory answers on many issues. The general meeting was conducted calmly and smoothly until the end.

The meeting began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Maulavi Yassir Barmawar Nadvi. Inayatullah Shabandri welcomed all the members, and General Secretary Abdul Raqib MJ Nadvi presented a biennial performance report. He requested the general members to show their deep commitment to the Tanzeem, visiting the Tanzeem office at least once every three months, if not every month. He encouraged members to provide their feedback and suggestions to the officials to improve the Tanzeem's work. He noted that, probably for the first time in the Tanzeem's history, the annual meeting was held at night, allowing a maximum number of members, especially businessmen, to participate after closing their shops.

Regarding the new commercial complex of the Tanzeem in Nawayat Colony, the General Secretary clarified that the construction work is ongoing, but financial support from the members is required. In response to a question, the General Secretary of the Tanzeem mentioned that 19,500 Aadhaar cards have been made in the Aadhaar card camp organized by the Tanzeem, with the cooperation of the sports centers of Noor Halqa and the coordination of Rabita Society, over the last three months. The Tanzeem General Secretary, Abdul Raqib MJ, while responding to complaints about councilors and panchayat members not addressing local issues, stated that letters were sent by the Tanzeem to all the Masjid committees in Bhatkal, instructing them to present their area problems in writing to their respective councilors or panchayat members and forward a copy to the Tanzeem. The Tanzeem's letter also instructed Masjid committees to hold meetings with the concerned councilors or panchayat members and try to solve the problems in their areas. If the problems are still not being resolved, they were advised to approach the Tanzeem through their respective Masjid committees.

Regarding the Bhatkal MLA, who is now the District In-charge Minister, it was stated that the Tanzeem officials are in proper contact with him. It was mentioned that many issues have been resolved, many are in progress, and some are yet to be addressed. The members were assured that the Tanzeem is doing its best, with the support of the District In-charge Minister, to work for the development of Bhatkal and to resolve the problems faced by its people.

A total of 130 members participated in the meeting, including the conveners of various committees of the Tanzeem, Vice President Atiqur Rahman Muniri, other officials such as Mohiddin Ruknuddin, Jailani Shabandari, Iqbal Suhail, Mohammed Hussain Mualim, President of Bhatkal Muslim Gulf Council Umar Farooq Musbah, President of Bhatkal Community Jeddah, Qamar Saada, and many other officials.
