Sirsi (DHNS): In an unusual move, the officials of Sirsi City Municipal Council (CMC) were seen moving door-to-door collecting garbage on Friday.

There has been a disruption in garbage disposal in Sirsi for five days due to a protest by outsourced workers of the City Municipal Council (CMC). As a result, the piling garbage dumps began emanating a foul smell in several areas. To avoid the problem being faced by the public, the officials themselves collected garbage from every home.

Services of as many as 19 civic workers have been regularised while the remaining 30 civic workers have been excluded from this benefit due to various reasons. The civic workers took to the streets against this ‘discrimination’. They vented their anger by not collecting garbage for five days. Due to this, garbage dumps have increased in Sirsi and people too are facing problems in keeping garbage at home.

To manage the situation as per the directions from higher officials, the CMC officials along with permanent civic workers and those from some other towns are collecting waste from every house.

On Friday, CMC Environmental Engineer Narayan Nayak along with the permanent employees of the CMC went door-to-door and dumped the waste from household garbage bins into the auto tipper, while second division assistant of the CMC Naveen Kudalkar worked as the tipper driver. Sarath Kanade, a permanent employee, assisted them. They went across the town like garbage collectors and worked in two shifts.
