Bhatkal: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for a week of rain and thunderstorms across Karnataka due to the effects of Cyclone Rimal in the Arabian Sea. As the monsoon enters Kerala, the Karnataka coast is expected to experience moderate rainfall, influenced by strong winds. From May 31 to June 4, thundershowers are predicted at isolated places in Dakshina Kannada district, and light rainfall with thunderstorms in Udupi and Uttara Kannada.

From May 31 to June 5, light to moderate rain will occur across Karnataka, with particularly heavy rain and strong winds anticipated in the southern interior districts from May 31 to June 3. A strong wind blowing from the north at latitude 8 is impacting the southern plateau region of the country. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is visible in the tropical Arabian Sea off the coast of South Kerala.

The Karnataka Disaster Management Authority has also reported the likelihood of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. From June 1 to 3, there is a chance of scattered heavy rains in the southern interior districts.

The IMD had initially predicted that the monsoon would enter Kerala on May 31. However, Cyclone Rimal has influenced the monsoon rains. Officials now indicate that the monsoon is likely to enter the Kerala coast and some parts of the northeast from today, a day earlier than expected. Cyclone Rimal, which passed through West Bengal and Bangladesh, has drawn the monsoon flow into the Bay of Bengal, resulting in an earlier onset of the monsoon in the northeastern states by five days.

Rain is anticipated over Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam, as well as along the Kerala coast. On Wednesday, some coastal and inland areas experienced rain, including Dakshina Kannada District's Mangalore Airport, Belthangadi, and Chikkamagaluru District's Kottigehara, each recording 3 cm of rainfall.
